Ben is currently editing and translating Kṣemarāja’s commentary on the Śivasūtras in collaboration with Dr. Mrinal Kaul. For the past four years Ben and Mrinal have collected copies of over 60 manuscripts of this text from archives across India and Europe, which will be the basis for their forthcoming study and translation.
In this workshop, Ben will share Kṣemarāja’s view on the nature of self and consciousness, and then facilitate a collective philosophical inquiry on the implications of this liberating perspective in light of contemporary worldviews.
Ben is an Associate Professor of Hinduism at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. He is also the first Research Scholar-in-Residence with the Muktabodha Indological Research Institute, helping to guide the development of Muktabodha’s Digital Library collections. This digital library is accessible from anywhere and is a major resource for the scholarly study and practice of Śaiva and Śākta traditions. A recent addition to the library is a definitive collection of e-texts on Haṭha Yoga based on a major research initiative, the Haṭha Yoga Project, led by Prof. James Mallinson (University of Oxford).
