MMMMMMYSORE… THE TASTIEST WAY TO PRACTISE
FRIDAY 16TH OCTOBER
3.30PM – 5.30PM
£50
The tastiest way to practise for personal growth and enhanced understanding.
Led classes are wonderful. We can unplug and wait for the teacher to tell us what to do next. This is soothing, nurturing and fulfilling. This approach however is like a chaperoned relationship with the yoga. The teacher always looking over our shoulder to remind us of every breath and movement. This is a blessed way to practice and is certainly valid! But within this approach we can run the risk of becoming dependent on the teachers’ guidance to the point that we do not have a sense of our own rhythm, timing and breath. In order to truly develop a deep and personal relationship with the yoga we need to wean our self away from the teachers’ words and seek the voice of Ashtanga as it arises through the sound of our own breath and the dancing flow of the sequence. The teacher is still present yet only to assist where absolutely necessary. To guide when needed and advise when required. Now the depth of practice spreads her arms and welcomes us into the flow. This relationship once established is freedom! Now we stand on our own and walk hand in hand with the practice and the ancient wisdom gained from the direct connection. The greatest teachers instill strength, independence and confidence into their students. Mysore practice is a stepping-stone to the path of self-reliance.
Open to all levels.

DAVID SWENSON
ABOUT DAVID SWENSON
David Swenson began his journey of Yoga in 1969 when he and his brother Doug practiced in a small park at the end of their street in Houston, Texas. There were few sources for yoga at that time so they practised from whatever books they could find.
In 1973 David discovered Ashtanga after he met David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff in Encinitas, CA. In 1975 David and Nancy brought K. Pattabhi Jois to the U.S. for the first time and Swenson was fortunate enough to be there. He then initiated studies directly with the master. He made his first trip to Mysore in 1977. David is one of only a handful of Westerners to have learned the full Ashtanga system including all of the asana sequences and pranayama as originally taught by K. Pattabhi Jois.
Today David is recognised as one of the world’s foremost practitioners and instructors of Ashtanga Yoga. He tirelessly travels year round to teach and offer workshops. His courses are presented in a supportive and compassionate fashion making it accessible to all levels of practitioner to participate.
