WITH TOM MYERS
Breath is a never-ending wave of life. Our breath never stops, but we humans introduce holding to our breath that saps our consciousness and energy and attention away from the present moment – in yoga or in life.
In this two-day course we get to explore breath in a variety of ways, based on Tom’s 50 years in the field, including:
THE ANATOMY OF BREATH
– What are the 120 joints moved by your breath?
– One muscle or 600? The role of the diaphragm and ‘accessory’ muscles
– Where, how, and why we interrupt breath?
– Airway ease and head posture
– Core support: getting the hips under the breath
EASING THE PROBLEMS, ALLOWING FOR CHANGE
– Movement and manual therapy for augmenting the inhale – and the exhale!
– How to see where someone lacks breath and how to facilitate opening
– Trauma release: breath mirroring as a fail-safe method
– Movement and manual therapy for breath support in standing and walking
THE PHYSIOLOGY OF BREATHING
– Emotional: breath and autonomic system
– The Vagus nerve in stress and attention
– Trauma resolution and breath patterning: prana and apana
– Managing stress with breath
BREATH MANAGEMENT IN YOGA & LIFE
– Patterns of maladaptive breathing
– Pranayama: patterns of adaptive breathing
– Breathing and exertion: how adaptable is your breath?
Join Tom for a fascia-nating tour around our breath, filled with practical tips for the yoga teacher, bodyworker, or for anyone interested in mastering the contradictions of a ’natural’ breath.
