WITH RICHARD ROSEN
The practice of ‘pranayama’ often seems quite intimidating to the average student. What most students don’t realise is that the pranayama described in the traditional texts and taught by modern-day masters was created by and for ascetics whose primary goal was self-liberation, not successfully embracing everyday life in the 21st century.
We can, however, while still respecting the tradition, adapt the ancient practices to make them more appropriate and useful to today’s students. We will do this both for a formal practice and to improve the quality of breathing and so the experience of everyday life.
This online workshop will include some simple, preparatory exercises, a shavasana mini-workshop during which we’ll meet our Witness, and basic pranayama breaths and techniques both while reclining and, after a short intro to proper sitting, upright. It will then be up to you to apply what you learn to the true yoga practice: everyday life.
IMPORTANT
Please be sure to have all your props to hand for this workshop: at minimum three blankets, two blocks, and a belt, and a bolster if you have one.
Some experience with asana and/or meditation recommended but not required.
